Motion Detection Mechanisms

چکیده
Synopsis This review discusses theoretical, behavioral, and physiological studies of motion mechanisms. The three main schemes for motion detection (space-time correlation, orientation, and gradients) are contrasted using experimental data from insects, rabbits, cats, monkeys, and humans. These schemes provide a basic understanding of the organization of many neural motion detection systems. However, few neural systems are pure implementations of any of these three detection schemes. It is suggested that using a mixture of motion detection mechanisms may be advantageous to a neural system faced with the difficult, but important task of detecting motion under widely varying conditions.

Applying mean shift and motion detection approaches to hand tracking in sign language
Hand gesture recognition is very important to communicate in sign language. In this paper, an effective object tracking and hand gesture recognition method is proposed. This method is combination of two well-known approaches, the mean shift and the motion detection algorithm. The mean shift algorithm can track objects based on the color, then when hand passes the face occlusion happens. Several...
متن کاملMotion detection by a moving observer using Kalman filter and neural network in soccer robot
In many autonomous mobile applications, robots must be capable of analyzing motion of moving objects in their environment. Duringmovement of robot the quality of images is affected by quakes of camera which cause high errors in image processing outputs. In thispaper, we propose a novel method to effectively overcome this problem using Neural Networks and Kalman Filtering theory. Thistechnique u...
متن کاملAutomatic detection of liver tumor motion by fluoroscopy images
Background: A method to track liver tumor motion signals from fluoroscopic images without any implanted gold fiducial markers was proposed in this study to overcome the adverse effects on precise tumor irradiation caused by respiratory movement. Materials and Methods: The method was based on the following idea: (i) Before treatment, a series of fluoroscopic images corresponding to different bre...
متن کاملFundamental mechanisms of visual motion detection: models, cells and functions.
Taking a comparative approach, data from a range of visual species are discussed in the context of ideas about mechanisms of motion detection. The cellular basis of motion detection in the vertebrate retina, sub-cortical structures and visual cortex is reviewed alongside that of the insect optic lobes. Special care is taken to relate concepts from theoretical models to the neural circuitry in b...
متن کاملMinimum displacement thresholds for binocular three-dimensional motion
Thresholds for the detection of motion in depth in the median plane of the head are substantially poorer than those for motion in the frontoparallel plane. This suggests the existence of two independent mechanisms for their detection. Any three-dimensional (3-D) motion can be decomposed into components of motion in the frontoparallel plane and in the median plane of the head. Can human performa...
